Der Koran oder Qur'an [qurˈʔaːn] (arabisch ‏القرآن‎ al-qurʾān ‚die Lesung, Rezitierung, Vortrag‘) ist die Heilige Schrift des Islam, die gemäß dem Glauben der Muslime die wörtliche Offenbarung Gottes (arab. Allah) an den Propheten Mohammed enthält, vermittelt durch „Verbalinspiration“ des Engel Gabriel („Diktatverständnis“ des Korans). Er ist in einer speziellen Reimprosa abgefasst, die auf Arabisch als sadschʿ (‏سجع‎ / saǧʿ) bezeichnet wird. Der Koran besteht aus 114 Suren, diese bestehen wiederum aus einer unterschiedlichen Anzahl an Versen (‏آيات‎ / āyāt).
Ein wichtiges Kennzeichen des Korans ist seine Selbstreferentialität. Das bedeutet, dass der Koran sich an vielen Stellen selbst thematisiert. Auch die meisten Glaubenslehren der Muslime hinsichtlich des Korans stützen sich auf solche selbstreferentiellen Aussagen im Koran.

Despite the other reviews, I like this precisely because it is arranged chronologically. Reading from front to back, you can see how Mohamed's theologically evolved over time. I particularly like how the translator places the Suras in Mecca or Medina. You can clearly see the distinction in the theology after Mohamed went to Medina.

The language may be Elizabethan style, but it's readable. It's excellent if you want a chronological version.

If you want to read a reputable and accurate version of the Koran, this translation is the one to get.
Good read
I got this because I teach social studies and I like to have the students compare religions using the actual books rather than just 3rd sources. It is good condition. It appear to be what it says it is.
This is a tough one. Translation is always difficult from one language to another. I got this so my wife and son could at least get an IDEA of the Koran, instead of hearing it on the news.
I bought this Koran as translated by Rodwell as it the one recommended to the Baha'is as the one to study of the editions available during his lifetime. The one i had was an old paperback that was not in the best of shape. This one is a Hardback and i hoped longer lived.

The best translation. Would've liked a bit better binding & page material up to the quality of better paperback bibles as I'm trying to read reread this terrifying scripture, study & comprehend it. I vigorously recommend readers buy one of the Koran guides you have. I procured the Robert Spencer one your website recommended; quite pleased I ordered it with this translation-I have 2 other translations, this is the best.
